Business downtime Have a significant consequence to the brand name, customers, opportunities, or revenue loss. There are multiple solution and architectures are available for HA and DR setup. Based on the Recovery point objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Object objective(RTO) the Total cost of ownership to implement varies.

Nevertheless, there is also a recurring maintenance cost to manage such systems. Most of the database system that are commercially sold, or free as open source provide some level of HA and DR features which would still require an experienced team to design, implement and manage.

Ahana has implemented numerous projects, created run books and often participated in DR drills.
We can start any size projects with simple POC, design and develop process of installing, managing and running.
We work with business to fine tune RPO and RTO that is demanded by the business.
In addition to one-time projects we provide DRaaS(DR as a Service) managed services plans to manage your business continuity requirements.
Our experts have installed HA/DR solution within or across Datacenter or to a cloud.
  • Oracle is uniquely positioned in the industry by offering customers a comprehensive set of database high availability capabilities that seamlessly work together to help reduce both planned and unplanned downtime.

    • Oracle provides 4 types of recovery options.
      -Oracle DataGuard,Golden Gate replication
      -Oracle RAC – clustering
      -Oracle storage mirroring
      -Oracle backup/recovery (ex: RMAN)

    • Ahana has a team of senior architects/DBA who have implemented numerous HA and DR projects using the combination of server clusters, RAC, Dataguard replication or storage level replication to seamlessly manage various business continuity requirements.

    • Please use the above diagram as a reference for describing our HA/DR services.
    • Sap Sybase provided different HA solution like Oracle or SQLServer. In the past like Oracle RAC there was a cluster Edition and hardware specific HA solution using Solaris, AIX or Windows operating system. Unfortunately, these two options are no longer supported by SAP anymore.

    • There are three types of HA/DR solution is available now and they are all heavily dependent on Sybase replication software.
      1.Warmstandby replication
      2.MSA (Multi-site Availability) replication.
      3.HADR option for Sybase ASE

    • The current version on SAP ECC running on Sybase ASE as the backend, HADR option is supplied along with the ECC software. It is very complicated and time consuming for the basis admin to implement them on their own or by using solution manager like tools. Our expert Level 4 team can assist your onsite team to implement HADR option for Sybase ASE in no time.
  • Similar to Oracle SQLServer provide four different type of HA/DR solution
    1. Backup/Recovery, log shipping
    2. Windows Clustering
    3. Replication
    4. Always On Availability Groups

  • Similar to Oracle or Microsoft replication uses transaction log to capture committed transaction and send to the target server. Clustering option uses Windows Clustering setup with shared storage.

  • Always On SQL Server is a High Availability and Disaster Recovery solution introduced in SQL Server 2012. It is very robust HA/DR solution for failing over databases locally or to a server on remote data center.
  • Backup and recovery are very basic system 101 for the system admins or for the database team.

But this is one function majority of the clients had failed, found risks and issues at the time of a real need though everyone knows the business impact is catastrophic.

It is not a surprise we often come across the entire IT team is scrambling for the right backup or recovery procedures when crash happens.

During our audits we discovered no clear run books available for recovery, stakeholder participation or right process to restore the systems to its original state. Often, we even came across the backup was not available or not in a usable format i.e., the backup copy can’t be used to restore.
